A free Microsoft account lets you link Office licenses, sync settings and use OneDrive.
- Go to Microsoft’s account website, account.microsoft.com, and choose to create an account.
- Use an existing email address, or create a new Outlook.com address.
- Choose a strong password and follow the prompts, including the verification code sent to you.
You can also create one while setting up Windows or signing in to Office. Keep your sign-in details safe: if your Office license is linked to your account, you’ll need them to reinstall.
