Depending on the edition and license, Office activates in one of two ways. Your order email tells you which applies.
Enter the key in the app
- Open Word, Excel or another Office app.
- When prompted, choose to enter a product key and type your key.
- Check File → Account. It should show “Product Activated”.
Redeem the key with your Microsoft account
- Sign in to Microsoft’s Office setup page with your Microsoft account.
- Enter your product key to link the license to your account.
- Download and install Office from your account, then sign in to the apps with the same account.
Linking the license to an account makes reinstalling Office later much easier. If you see “Unlicensed Product”, see Office activation error.
