Windows product keys have 25 characters in five groups, like XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
In Settings
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- On Windows 11, go to System → Activation. On Windows 10, go to Update & Security → Activation.
- Select Change product key, enter your key and follow the prompts.
Tips for entering the key
- Copy and paste it from your order email to avoid mix-ups like 8 and B, or 0 and O.
- The dashes are added automatically; you only need the letters and numbers.
- The key must match the installed edition. A Home key can’t activate Windows Pro. Entering a Pro key on a Home PC starts an upgrade to Pro; see How to upgrade Windows editions.
