Most activation problems have simple causes. Check these in order:
- Internet connection: activation needs to reach Microsoft’s servers.
- Typing: paste the key from your order email instead of typing it.
- Edition match: the key must match what’s installed, for example Pro for Pro, or Office Standard for Office Standard. See Product key does not match the installed version.
- Date and time: make sure your computer’s date, time and time zone are correct.
- Windows troubleshooter: on the Activation page in Settings, select Troubleshoot if it appears.
